The Norfolk Sister City Association was founded in 1976 and is a member of Sister Cities International, based in Washington D.C. The Association is a non-profit civic organization which coordinates the activities of Norfolk's sister cities program. Its purpose is to foster international understanding, friendship and cooperation through people-to-people exchanges and long-term partnerships between Norfolk and its sister cities. The association aims to involve a broad spectrum of the community in citizen diplomacy and to be a catalyst for linking counterpart organizations in Norfolk with its sister cities to enable them to conduct exchanges of mutual interest.
The mission of the Norfolk Sister City Association (NSCA) is to foster international understanding, friendship, and cooperation by promoting people-to-people exchanges and continuing relationships between Norfolk, Virginia and its international sister cities.
Norfolk Sister City Association is a non-profit citizen diplomacy organization that creates and strengthens partnerships between Norfolk, Virginia and international communities. We strive to build global cooperation at the municipal level, promote cultural understanding and stimulate economic development.
We provide opportunities for city officials and citizens to experience and explore other cultures through long-term community partnerships.
We create an atmosphere in which economic and community development can be implemented and strengthened.
We stimulate environments through which communities will creatively learn, work, and solve problems together through reciprocal cultural, educational, municipal, business, professional and technical exchanges and projects.
We partner with businesses and organizations in Hampton Roads which share similar goals.
