“Ariadne auf Naxos: a high-concept project”
The recent film “Cowboys and Aliens” is what Hollywood calls “high concept”, meaning it has a can’t-miss premise one can summarize in a few words. The same holds true for Strauss’s eccentric comedy Ariadne auf Naxos in which, as we shall see, the premise consists of a troupe of comedians running amok in a serious Greek drama, set to some of the most thrillingly beautiful music in all of opera.
