Norfolk Sister City Association was invited by the City of Cagayan de Oro, Philippines to participate in this important celebration. Our Executive Director and two NSCA members attended and participated in a week long series of events including an historical reenactment, history lectures, film screenings and culture and educational tours of our Philippines sister city.
A group of actors arrived at the Macabalan port on board a Philippine Navy boat in Cagayan de Oro City on Monday, March 13, 2017. The actors portrayed American General Douglas MacArthur and his staff who arrived in Maabalan after escaping Corrigidor Island which was surrounded by Japanese forces during World War II. MacArthur ten went to Del Monte Field in Barangay Diklum, Manolo Fortich town in Bukidnon where he flew to Australia where he gave his “I shall return” oath. Photo by Froilan Gallardo
