Due to low ticket sales, the decision has been made to cancel the Experience Ghana event which was scheduled for this upcoming Saturday, June 8. To those who have purchased tickets, we will offer a refund or an opportunity to donate towards a reception for the mayoral delegation from Tema, Ghana who are planning to arrive later this month. Also, mark your calendars now for March 8, 2025, for next year’s Experience Ghana!
Tema, Ghana committee member, Brenda Andrews, who is also publisher of the New Journal and Guide, has extended a special invitation to all of us to instead attend Juneteenth: Resilience and Freedom, in Kaufman Theater, Chrysler Museum of Art, on the same day, June 8 at 2 p.m. This program will give a close-up look at pivotal moments in African American history through art, song, historical accounts, and storytelling. We will deepen our understanding of what resilience and freedom truly mean in contemporary times as the nation sets forth to recognize and celebrate the Juneteenth holiday. Featured performers include Amber Garret and Nathan Richardson, and you are welcome to attend a Pre-Program Art Tour with Docent Guide Barbara Higgins.
